day 1
Case Study – Day 1
On the first day of the auction I received an email asking if I wanted to sell my mobile privately. This is what the email consisted of:
“hello would u be interested in selling your phone for 35 cash straight into ur paypal account if so pl email me asap thanks
ps this is within ebay rules il show you how and we can still leave each other feedback also saves the hassle of non paying bidders
pss if you have any other newish phones for sale pl let me no many thanks.....”
I had already been previously warned about these types of emails but some of you may not have been. Although I was pleased that my item had gained some interest I was extremely wary of selling so early on in the auction and I would definitely not sell it for £35! In this situation I would suggest that you email the person back promptly with a response such as:
“Hi ******,
Thank you for your interest in my phone. I am aware that I can sell you the phone privately but I am afraid on this occasion I will not be able to sell you the phone as I feel that I will be able to get more money for this great phone through auction.
Feel free to bid for the phone through auction!
Thank you for your interest!
Regards......”
By replying in this way you are making it clear that you will not be selling your item privately but in an appropriate and nice way. It is important that you email back promptly and in appropriate way because they might end up biding for your item and winning therefore, you want them to leave you positive feedback.
